Dyrehaven Forest
Dyrehaven, 'The Deer Park', is a forest park north of Copenhagen, Denmark, and known for its large populations of red and fallow deer. Dyrehaven forest is noted for its mixture of huge and ancient oak trees and is maintained as a natural forest.
This forest, that covers 11 km2, was the former property of Valdemar the Victorious back in the thirteenth century, and since then it has been a hunting forest. But nowadays hunting is no more permitted in Dyrehaven, which is now a public and recreational area in which deer live semi-captive, along with the rest of the wildlife in this magnificent area.
By the end of September 2012, accompanied with some good friends, I arrived Dyrehaven to enjoy and photograph the deer bawling that occurs there at the beginning of each Autumn, when males fight and bawl to get the ‘favor’ of female deer.
