Griffon vulture. The populations of these large carnivorous birds in Spain have been threatened in recent years due to legislative restrictions on the ancient custom of using middens, places where ranchers leave carcasses to feed the vultures. This was due to the proliferation of so-called "mad cow disease". But recent regulations changes, more permissive in the use of middens, open new paths for hope.
